11/9

Saw 2 plays that my old fellow year 13s from wrotham school performed as part of their on-going coursework that will contribute to their overall A-level.

I know how it feels to be in their shoes. Nearly a year ago I had to do (or perform, being the more appropriate word) a devised piece called Purgatory. Won't go into too much detail but at the end of the tiring and challenging process I felt that the piece was my baby, our baby. Nobody putside of the drama department/world can truly appreciate the amount of work that goes into a play especially one that might even determine whether or not you get a good grade or a pass. So just as the play was about to begin I felt truly nervous for my friends and once upon a time classmates.

Can I just say at this point that both of the plays use the same stimulus (original material) of that of the seven sins.

The first play was called Sinful Time and was about a woman who appears to have the perfect lifestyle, but yet as always her life is far from perfect....blah, blah and later receives tragic news blah blah news that trigger off a chain of events blah blah....Bit predictable really not that there was anything wrong with the piece or the acting either...the comedy was spoton and came just at the right times but it lacked tightness and being quick with the action it seemed to drag on in my opnion (says me who only saw half of this one).

11/9 howver my God what a piece, this was without a shadow of doubt one of the best pllays that I have seen in a while. I could have sworn I was watching something that the Spotlites Youth Company was putting on show, professionals in other words. The use of music was excellent (rock/metal music) which was good becuase it conveyed raw emotion with ease without being cheesy or too over the top either. It explored the concept of terrorism. The obvious terrorism and how some people in society today are racist towards muslims becuase of what is ahppening in Iraq and what happened to the two towers. They also explored how a terrorist can be found anywhere even inside of ourselves in a psychological fashion maybe?!

The set was brilliant. A white sheet was teied to both ends of the stage at the beginning of the play and the end of the play. Five other white sheets were tied on to the main white sheet so as to create seats for the actors. Once seated it looked like they were on a rollercoaster of some description. But oh no, this wasn't a rollercoaster (although the play was) this resembled a plane they were re-enacting the events of 9/11 and exploring which one of the characters on stage could have the mentall capacity to do some thing like that. I was worried at this point that the real menaing would be lost and people might even walk out as they'd be offendedby what they saw becuase of the context of the drama, but it didnt get lost at all, in fact it added to the drama.

The piece was very Brechtian and could be construed as difficult to follow especially from those who have never studied Brecht before. However, from my own opnion I can derive that this play was fantastic, the actors delivered raw emotion, explored human truth and explored the dichotomy of reality. In other words those actors can bloody act!

OMG and WTF!!!!!!

Firstly on a positive note how FUCKING AMAZING was the MCR gig!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gerard entered in a priests uniform - it is now official he really is God

They did Thank You for the Venom first and Vampires Will never Hurt You and I'm Not OK (I Promise) as a an encore

The only thing that was a let down was that they played a song from their new album, the song's called Shut Up and Play and the melody sounded very reminiscent of Last Christmas by Wham!. I really dont want them to go all poppy and turn into an updated version of those losers.

They did a brilliant cover of a Misfits song. I think it was Astro Zombies but I'm not sure.

All in all it was excellent I couldn't have wished for a better evening or week actually. I'd finsished by lectures for a week (or for another week if you count reading week), went to another gig at the uni. club e1 called dirt where two bands played called team and atlantic dash (supported arcitc monkeys on a tour recently. team were very good but left halfway through the second band as they were shite. The night was awesome though as finally the club is playing decent music not the aimless and repetitive noise of garage, house and shed rubbish, went home saturday and didnt back to uni. unitl a week and a day later.

Finished all my work (coursework that is), just more faming reading and research for two more essays that have to be in two weeks from now.

Auditioned for a panto to day (Robin Hood) for the part of the Sheriff, sounds crap, but its nice to carry on my interest futher afield as well as auditioning for a west end play. My lecturer needs 6 singers for a play about religion and sex. v. funny, but i cant sing but will give a go anyway it will be a lauh all the same.

have a job interview on thursday too, and all the while trying to write down some ideas for my own plays - busy, busy.

weekly updates #1

So what's the story? Why have I been away? Moving in and getting settled at uni in London that's why.

It's fabulous....everyones individual and different...does anyone know how refreshing it is to no longer be surrounded by band wannabes and pikeys?! God refreshing to the point of freezing!!!!

No inspiration as of yet but that's because I'm having a good time, I need to go through shit in order to be inspired.

Two weeks I'm seeing My Chemical Romance and I'm seeing HIM at Brixton in January so all you HIM freaks best stay away as me and my friends like OTHER BANDS. Nah your all right really just a bit teenyboppish if you get what I mean

Anyway enough of the immaturity and on with me please. Everythings good am focussing at present on learning drums and writing/directing a few pieces for the Players society so am a bit busy but I guess I like things that way.

Sees ya later

About Me...

Sun Jul 3, 2005, 7:44 AM
Suffering from a kind of overkill of The 69 Eyes. Bought their album "Devils" from amazon and they only had one copy left so I snapped it up. So that is why im listening to them and no i dont like Jussi before you ask or Jyrki. TIMO-TIMO RULES!!!...omg I'm not even attracted to men...maybe i should have closure...O_o

My mother likes Velvet Revolver and get this she knew that it was Guns and Roses but without Axl Rose...tis slightly scary...on the other hand Dad watched them on Live 8 yesterday and says it was appalling noise and I said that Bob Dylan (who he listens to) is unnecessary noise

LIKES:
Gerard's hair, Chris, the smell of new books *ink*, buying one CD a week, payday, my mums hugs, the feeling of knowing someone loves you as much as you love them...I miss that, birthdays, Christmases, the sound of autumn leaves when crushed, when new ideas for lyrics spring to mind, Homebase for once as its overtime which can only mean more money, knowing that I've finished school..no more Drama lessons forever, being proved right, being a good matchmaker for my mates Matt and Nic, arguments with Luke on politics, Em's slapstick comedy, me when drunk, getting random/caring texts, discovering "new" bands eg. Nine Black Alps, The 69 Eyes, My Chemical Romance, etc., camden's bohemian atmosphere, gigs, my bedroom, lazy days, malta, my iPod, Naaatalie *purrs softly*, weekends.

DISLIKES:
period pains, headaches, rainy days, when I don't get a hug when I actually need one, disdainful looks, being patronised, my aunt, certain people from my old school, Carl Barats hypocrisy when it comes to drugs, brown-nosed HIM/69 Eyes fans *puts on high-pitched voice* "JUUUUUUSSI/VIIIIIILLE", damage to our planet, poverty, AIDS, homophobia, racism from both sides, chavs, bullying, our government and America's, cruelty to animals, war, people who are gay who quite clearly have chips on their shoulders, fakes, men who assume that I don't need women but a real man instead, people who think that just because I'm gay I fancy every single women that exists.
